BIBLE STUDY: What Does The Bible Really Say About Christians Worshipping On Sunday?

Although the word “Sunday” does not appear in historically honest or grammatically correct translations of the Bible; the phrase, “the first day of the week” is actually found eight times in the New Testament. Let’s see what God has to say about Christians observing the first day of the week, as their day of worship (Psalm 23:1-6, 85:13, 119:172 / 1 Peter 2:20-25 / Matthew 11:25-30).

Obviously, from the Scriptures we just read, we know that Christ promises to Lead us, Guide us, and Control us, in The Way or in The Path that leads to Salvation. But these are Conditional Promises!!! www.onug.us

“And, behold, I Come Quickly; and My Reward is with Me, to give every man ACCORDING AS HIS WORK SHALL BE!!!” (Revelation 22:12).

We MUST fulfill the condition FIRST; in order to get the Promised Reward - SECOND; and that Condition is to Follow Jesus’ Lead, Follow His Path, Learn of Him, and then Yield to His Direction!!! It is such a simple concept, that it takes a human school of divinity, and strenuous indoctrination, in order to get ministers to believe the opposite, and then to get them teach others a lie – with a straight face (Revelation 22:14-15)!!!

Bible Study Instructions: One Nation Under God Ministries (www.onug.us) publishes and distributes weekly Bible Studies, worldwide – free of charge, to anyone who requests them, in both printed and electronic formats. Our Studies are intended to be a simple and fun way to learn the Scriptures, and are very easy to follow! We adhere to Jesus Christ’s Biblical instructions to teach and feed the flock of God portions of meat in due season, on weekly Sabbaths, and on the seven annual Holy Days throughout each calendar year (Luke 12:42 / Isaiah 28:9-10 / Matthew 13:52). Using both the Old and New Testaments, our Bible Studies are designed to present a premise, make a statement, or ask a question – followed by one or more Scriptural references. Just look up and read from your Bible the Scriptures listed. Comments following questions elaborate on the Scriptures you just read. Pray always before beginning any study of God’s Word, asking God to open both your eyes and your mind to His Truth; then Prove everything you read, is in fact the Truth, by comparing it to The Word of God (1 Thessalonians 5:21 / 2 Timothy 3:15-17). Then use the Biblical System of Checks and Balances, and SEE if both Jesus Christ, and the First Century Church of God Apostles – also Did, Said, and Taught these SAME THINGS (Galatians 1:1-12, 5:25 / 1 Peter 2:21, 25 / 1 John 2:3-6)! That’s all there is to it! Our Bible Studies are based on the King James Version, unless otherwise stated. We will be praying for your eyes to “see” (Matthew 13:11-17); and we are always available to answer any of your questions! Be Blessed, in Jesus’ Name! - One Nation Under God Ministries (www.onug.us).

Now before we examine the 8 specific Scriptures in the New Testament that reference the first day of the week, we should rightly give credit where credit is due; and recognize for ourselves, just how and why most Christians today came to worship God on Sunday. That credit, my friends, is rightly due to the Roman Catholic Church! Indulge me for a brief moment, and allow me to take you back in time to the America of just over a hundred years ago, to the year 1893 to be exact. Let us read what the papacy in the United States said on the matter of the Christian observance of Sunday as a day of worship:

"The Catholic Church for over 1,000 years before the existence of a Protestant, by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day [of worship] from Saturday to Sunday… In the Old Testament, reference is made 126 times to the Sabbath, and all these texts conspire harmoniously in voicing the will of God commanding the seventh day to be kept, because God Himself first kept it, making it obligatory on all as 'a perpetual covenant.' Nor can we imagine any one foolhardy enough to question the identity of Saturday with the Sabbath or seventh day, seeing that the people of Israel have been keeping Saturday from the giving of the law 2514 BC to the present… Examining the New Testament from cover to cover critically, we find the Sabbath referred to 61 times. We find, too, that the Savior invariably selected the Sabbath (Saturday) to teach in the synagogues and work miracles. The four Gospels refer to the Sabbath (Saturday) 51 times. . . . Hence the conclusion is inevitable . . . that of those who follow the Bible as their guide, the Israelites and the Seventh-day Adventists, have the exclusive weight of evidence on their side, whilst the biblical Protestant has not a word in self-defense for his substitution of Sunday for Saturday. . . . They have ignored and condemned their teacher, the Bible . . . and they have adopted a day [instituted and] kept by the Catholic Church." – From The Catholic Mirror: Official publication of Cardinal Gibbons and the Papacy in the United States, published in Baltimore, Maryland, September 1893.

Not only does the Catholic Church hit the nail on the head, they (the Catholic Church) admit to changing God’s Sabbath Day to Sunday; they also correctly identify those ordained by God to keep the Sabbath Holy, as “the Israelites”, or “those who follow the Bible as their guide”. The Catholic Church correctly perceived that the Jews were only 1/12th of the tribes of Israel, or the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (whose name was later changed to Israel), and the Catholic Church understood there were 11 other tribes, not just the tribe of Judah (or the Jews) who were also Israelites or Hebrews, and who also were commanded by God to keep the Sabbath (or the seventh day of the week holy). Unlike most Christians today, who believe anyone who keeps the Sabbath must be “Jewish”; The Catholic church knows that the “Biblical Protestant” (or those who protested against the Catholic Church in order to only follow Scripture as their guide) have a Scriptural mandate given to them by God to keep the Last Day of a seven day week holy to God (Daniel 2:20-22, 7:23-28 / Isaiah 66:22-23 / Exodus 31:12-18 / Deuteronomy 12:1-4, 28-32)!!! Do you understand that The Catholic Church KNOWS what the Bible says about the Sabbath Day? The Catholic Church just chooses NOT to keep God’s Day in favor of their own; and while they keep their own day, and follow their own traditions in opposition of what the Bible clearly teaches; they chastise “Protestant Christians” for copying their Catholic day of Sunday, and for ignoring the day, Saturday, which the Bible clearly teaches is the seventh day weekly Sabbath of God!!!

In the year 1893, just a little over a hundred years ago, the Catholic Church insightfully stated, “Nor can we imagine any one foolhardy enough to question the identity of Saturday with the Sabbath or seventh day, seeing that the people of Israel have been keeping Saturday from the giving of the law 2514 BC to the present… Examining the New Testament from cover to cover critically, we find the Sabbath referred to 61 times. We find, too, that the Savior invariably selected the Sabbath (Saturday) to teach in the synagogues and work miracles. The four Gospels refer to the Sabbath (Saturday) 51 times. . .”  www.onug.us

Yet on Friday, June 21, in the year 2013; a nationally syndicated Christian talk show host, who had his pastor, as a guest, on the show with him, said this in response to a call-in question…

Caller: “Hey I love the show… keep up the good work! I want to know why do we only keep 9 of the 10 commandments, and not the 4th one? Thank you.”

Host: “You know we get this a lot… and you want to fight and I don’t! (Host and Pastor laugh). “You know I spoke to a group of Seventh Day Adventists… Pastors…  and I said… ‘Guys, a couple of things… First, a Seventh Day Adventist led my father to Christ… so I like you guys! Second, you got a point on this “Sabbath thing”; and if you say I said that, I will say you lied!’ (Host and Pastor laugh). Because the principle behind the Commandment is understood and accepted by all Bible believing Christians…’”

Pastor: “Exactly”

Host: “…the question is ‘which (day) do you use?’ And the truth is, we are probably all of us worshipping on the wrong days, because the calendar has changed so many times.

Pastor: “That’s right! How do we know what is the actual Sabbath? You know.”

Host: “But you know, you do it your way, and we will do it God’s way! (Host and Pastor laugh). That’s a good question and we get it a lot.”

Pastor: “Yeah”

Host: “People who are seventh day people feel very strongly about this… which day is to be given… and there is some pretty strong stuff, Sabbatarian stuff in the Old Testament, about the Sabbath.”

Pastor: “Um Hmmm!”

Host: “Jesus said I am the Lord of the Sabbath, and He did some things on the Sabbath that were not very acceptable to the religious community.”

Pastor: “That’s right. He pushed the envelope, didn’t He?”

Host: “And, and… if you have friends who are going in the other direction (meaning that they are actually keeping God’s Sabbath), don’t mark them out of the Kingdom because of it. And, and, when we get home… (pause) I have that dream, and I’ve quoted it a thousand times… God’s going to say, ‘I have bad news and good news. The bad news is you were all wrong! Some of you were really wrong!”

Pastor: (Laughing)

Host: “The good news is Jesus died for you and He says ‘you’re ok’, so welcome!!!”

Let me pause our transcription of this radio program for just a moment and let us read Revelation 22:13-20. Do you see that Jesus Christ is telling us that our reward of eternal life is based on our ability to keep His Commandments, and that particularly we cannot love lying or indulge in making and promoting lies (verses 14-15)? Verse 16 makes it clear that Jesus is preaching to those who are called out of this world and placed by Him in His Church (the Body of Christ). Verse 17 shows us the holy spirit of God and the Church (or the Bride of Christ) are in agreement in Truth; they both are calling others in the world, out from the world, saying essentially, “Come… Hear the Truth… If you thirst after God’s Truth, come and drink it in!” That Truth is ALWAYS provided each Sabbath Day and each Holy Day; as it has been provided to those God is calling, from the end of the original Creation week to this very Sabbath, here today!!! But notice the warning in verses 18-19. We are warned about CHANGING anything in God’s Word; specifically we are prohibited from adding or omitting anything from the Word of God, or from changing His worship practices into those observed by pagans and the godless (Deuteronomy 12:28-32)!!! www.onug.us

Let’s now go back to our radio program and pick up where we left off…

Pastor: “Oh that is good, and that gives us a lot of freedom! Read... look at Colossians, about you know, one day is not to be put above another. And yet, also… read the rest of, the end of Romans 14:… that says if somebody has a conviction in that area, don’t ruin their faith, don’t ruin their faith.”

Host: “So, good question, we understand your passion. You go, just be careful… free us gently, ok?”

What you just read, or heard; was a word for word transcription from a recent major syndicated Christian Radio Program. Now I have to ask you, “What was that talk show about?” You just witnessed a Great job of smooth talking men, NOT answering a question… especially one they get asked often!!! www.onug.us

The Catholics really do know which day is God’s Sabbath Day; they just choose not to keep it! They know it is a pretty silly argument not to admit we can still determine which day God calls Holy! And they still condemn the Protestants for their blatant hypocrisy on the issue to this day (Daniel 7:25)! www.onug.us

The Protestants, as we have seen in this radio show, try to tell us we can’t really know which day is the True Seventh Day of the week; or else they will try another tactic, and tell us Sunday is now (post resurrection) the Lord’s Day… but is it?

Did God Change His Sabbath (Malachi 3:6 / Hebrews 13:8, 4:1-11)?

If the day was changed by Bible authority, and if Christians are to find any biblical authorization whatsoever for observing Sunday as the "Lord's Day" today; then we must find that authority in one of the eight New Testament texts that mentions the first day of the week! We cannot just make this stuff up as we go along (Matthew 4:4 / Luke 4:4, 6:46 / Deuteronomy 8:3)!!!

Since the Bible clearly establishes the seventh day of the week as the Sabbath up to the time of the crucifixion, there can be no biblical authority for Sunday observance unless we find it clearly and plainly stated in one of these eight New Testament passages. So let’s examine each one carefully, honestly, and prayerfully!!! www.onug.us

SUNDAY in Scripture:

1) Matthew 28:1 “In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher.” Matthew wrote these words, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, several years after the New Testament church came into being (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Yet we can plainly see that after three days, and three nights, of the Lord’s body being in the earth; after all that was done away with, and had been "nailed to the cross," that the Sabbath was still the day before the first day of the week, and still the seventh day of the week (Colossians 2:8-23 / Ephesians 2:10-22). Some try to tell us that the Sabbath command is merely for "one day in seven", that it does not have to be the seventh day of the week; merely the seventh part of time. They argue that Sunday, being one day out of seven, fulfills this command. But this passage in Matthew 28:1 states, in very plain language that, three days after all abolished things had been done away, the Sabbath (and God’s Law) still existed and that it was the seventh day of the week!

Those who still keep God’s Seven Annual Holy Days, know that God teaches parts of His Plan of Salvation during each Holy Day season. Jesus, the Lamb of God (John 1:29) was crucified on His Passover (a Wednesday of that year, the 14th day of Aviv), just as all the other Passover lambs were being killed by the priests on the Temple Mount, and their blood along with water, was flowing out through water channels built in the temple, into the Kidron Valley. Then after three full, 24 hour days (or 72 hours total) from when He was put into His tomb; Jesus was Resurrected, before 6 pm on Saturday (Sabbath) as our First Fruits – exactly when the Priests were selecting and cutting the sheaf offering of the First Fruits, which would be offered to God the following day (Leviticus 23:10-14 / 1 Corinthians 15:20 / 2 Chronicles 31:5 / Exodus 22:29 / James 1:18). Just as the Priests separated the sheaf from the stalk that held it to the ground about 4 pm on Sabbath after Passover, so Christ was separated from the grave that held Him at 4 pm on Sabbath afternoon after Passover! Mary could not touch her son on Sabbath before He ascended to the Father; but after sundown on that Sabbath, an already risen Christ appeared before God in the third heaven (on a Sunday evening – the first day of the week) as our First Fruits; and then sanctified the First Harvest (or those who will come up in the First Resurrection) back on earth (John 20:10-23). Remember, in the Bible, a day starts at sundown; so Saturday afternoon becomes Sunday evening when the sun goes down on Saturday. For more on how to reconcile time the way the Bible teaches, read our Bible Study: How Does God Measure Time?

Jesus had to come out of His grave on Sabbath, in order to fulfill multiple Old Testament prophecies!!! Changing this TRUTH of Scripture is fundamental in Satan’s Plan to Discredit and REMOVE The ORIGINAL and ETERNAL Sabbath (Isaiah 66:23-24 / Malachi 3:6 / Hebrews 4:1-11, 13:8) from the minds and hearts of people who profess to know Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:21 / Isaiah 66:23-24)!!! www.onug.us

How To Derail The Train:

Starting with the wrong information will always get you to reach an incorrect conclusion! People who have been taught that Sunday is The Lord’s Day, initially RUN from God’s True Sabbaths, and from God’s Real Plan; because they were indoctrinated with a lie at the beginning (John 8:44)! These poor, ignorant fools have been taught to only use Scripture, God’s Truth, and His Wisdom in a way to support the lie they began with (Romans 1:25)!!! Let me now show you How they “Miss The Boat” so to speak! www.onug.us

Here are a couple of Bible Translations of Matthew 28:1

New International Version

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

New Living Translation

Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb.

English Standard Version

Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.

Berean Study Bible

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.

Berean Literal Bible

And after the Sabbaths, it being dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.

New American Standard Bible

Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the grave.

King James Bible

In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

Notice ONLY the KJV says “in the end of” the Sabbath, all the other versions with the exception of The New Living Perversion which says nefariously, “Early on Sunday morning”; THEY ALL SAY, “After the Sabbath”. Interestingly, The Berean Literal Bible says, “And after the Sabbaths”.

IT WAS NOT AFTER THE SABBATH THAT CHRIST AROSE FROM HIS TOMB – IT WAS DURING THE SABBATH – TOWARDS THE END OF THE SABATH – OR AS THE KJV SAYS, “IN THE END OF THE SABATH!!!” www.onug.us

If I told you we are planning to have a Bible Study sometime “in the end of” the week; You should know that it has to happen sometime after the middle of the week. Sunday being the first day of the week, Wenesday at noon being the middle of the week, and Friday / Saturday being the last two days of the week – with the week coming to a Scripturally defined close, at sundown on Saturday!!! So the Bible Study would have to happen sometime BEFORE sundown on Saturday or Sabbath in order for it to happen “in the end of the week”.

Likewise, Christ arose from His Tomb, three days and three nights from a late Wednesday or Passover afternoon burial, on a late Saturday or Sabbath afternoon, BEFORE sunset – or as the KJV SAYS, “IN THE END OF THE SABBATH”!!! www.onug.us

So many own different PERVERSIONS (or versions) of the Word of God! They ignorantly start their journey of Truth in a LIE, and are never able to SEE The TRUTH (John 8:44-45)!!!

A Sunday resurrection of Jesus Christ is simply not possible, nor is it Scriptural!!! Now let’s look at the next verse that mentions the first day of the week.

2) Mark 16:2: “And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.” This first day of the week was, according to verse 1, “And when the Sabbath was past…” This verse proves the same thing as Matthew 28:1; the Sabbath was still the seventh day of the week after the Resurrection! www.onug.us

3. Mark 16:9: "Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.” This verse shows us in chronological order that Christ was risen (“as He said” – after 3 full days and 3 full nights in the earth – on a Sabbath afternoon), then He appeared to Mary Magdalene, early on the first day of the week (or after sunset on Saturday). It does not say the Resurrection was on Sunday! Some poor translations will use the word, “rose” without punctuation to further confuse those who do not understand about Passover and the sign of Jonah. Nothing here calls the first day of the week the Christian Sabbath. Nothing here calls it "the Lord's Day." Nothing here hallows Sunday or says God made it holy. Nothing here commands us to observe it. Nothing here sets it apart as a memorial of the Resurrection, or for any purpose. This verse contains no command or example of rest on this day; nor does it give us authority for observing Sunday (Deuteronomy 12:32)! Never base your theology on punctuation! The commas and punctuation were added many centuries after the original texts were written. If we are going to use modern commas properly in Mark 6:9, we would do it thus: “Now when Jesus was risen;” (meaning after Jesus had come out of His grave; then we pause for the next thought) “early the first day of the week,” (or early on the first day of the week) “He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven devils.” The intent was to show Jesus’ appearing to Mary Magdalene was some time after the resurrection. The phraseology would be no different than saying in modern English today: “When I was 15 years old, I took a trip to Europe.” The sentence does not mean exactly when I turned 15, as on my birthday; but means sometime AFTER I turned 15, I took a trip to Europe. It could be days, weeks, or months, after my birthday that the trip happened – the sentence in our example does not specify. Likewise, after the Resurrection of Christ, which we can prove happened on a Saturday (about 4 pm), and early on a Sunday (which is today, as was back then too, the first day of the week- which always starts at sundown Saturday), Christ appears to Mary Magdalene! www.onug.us

4. Luke 24:1: “Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.” This text reiterates the same event recorded by Matthew and Mark. It also shows us that on the first day of the week, these women came to do the work of a common weekday, after having rested the Sabbath day "according to the commandment" (Luke 23:51-56). The Holy Spirit inspired this statement. God knew the Sabbath was not abolished, and had Luke write this approximately thirty years after the establishing of the New Testament church! God inspired Luke to say that the "rest" which these women took, on the Sabbath day, was "according to the commandment", a statement that would not be possible to make after the resurrection, if the Sabbath commandment had been “nailed to the cross”! This text then, establishes Sunday as a common workday, at the time of this writing (approximately thirty years after the start of the New Testament Church)! The command to keep the Sabbath Holy was still in effect (Isaiah 58:13-14).

5. John 20:1: “The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.” This was written more than sixty years after the crucifixion and is John's version of the same visit to the tomb. It also confirms the previous facts. Christ was risen on a Saturday afternoon, before sunset on Saturday; when the sun set on Saturday or the Sabbath Day, the Biblical day changed to Sunday (or Sunday night “when it was yet dark”). Remember days start at sunset, and a 12 hour night happens before a 12 hour day! www.onug.us

6. John 20:19: “Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.” Some people will claim this gathering of the Disciples was a religious service called to celebrate the Resurrection… and that we must gather on Sunday. We know that the first day of the week that followed the Sabbath (at evening – before sunrise), was Jesus' first opportunity to appear to His disciples. For three and a half years, Jesus had been with the Disciples constantly, on all days of the week. This meeting with them on Sunday night, in and of itself, does not establish Sunday as a Sabbath! Were the Disciples meeting together to celebrate the resurrection? Did they intend to now establish Sunday as the Christian Sabbath in honor of the resurrection? If we keep reading, we will see why they were assembled together… "for fear of the Jews"!!! The Jews had just taken, tried, and executed their Master. They were all afraid!

The doors were shut and probably bolted because of this fear. This was their home, where they lived (Acts 1:13). Lastly, they could not have been celebrating the Resurrection because they did not yet believe Jesus was risen (Mark 16:14; Luke 24:37, 39, 41)!!! Nothing but man’s vain imagination calls Sunday the Sabbath, a day of worship, "the Lord's Day”, or sets it apart as somehow special for the New Testament church! There is nothing here to authorize changing God’s Commandments or to abolish the days God uses to Sanctify His children (Leviticus 23:1-44)!!!

7. Acts 20:7-8: “And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.” Finally, we actually find a religious meeting on the first day of the week! But it was not a "Sunday meeting," or an ordained “church service”. Notice, Paul continued his speech until midnight, and in verse 8 says, "And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.”  This meeting and Paul’s preaching, a “Bible Study”; occurred after sunset on the Sabbath Day, or on what we would call today, “Saturday night”. It was dark and they needed lights! Because it was after sunset Saturday, in Biblical days, it now becomes the first day of the week – or Sunday night, before midnight, and before sunrise on Sunday morning (evening first, then daytime follows in Biblical time keeping). However, it is clear from subsequent verses that Paul and his companions treated this first day of the week, beginning at sundown, as a normal workday. Paul's companions sailed around a peninsula from Troas to Assos (verse 13), a distance of fifty or sixty miles, while Paul, afoot, walked overland more than 19 miles (verses 11, 14). His companions were engaged in the labor of rowing and sailing a boat while Paul was preaching that Saturday night. Then, at the break of day Sunday morning, he set out to walk from Troas to Assos—a good hard day's work! He would not do this except on a common workday! No, Sunday is not the new Sabbath! www.onug.us

Also, the text (verse 7) does not say, as many claim it does, that the Disciples always held communion on every first day of the week!? This scripture says nothing about anything being done weekly or customarily. It simply relates the events of this one particular first day of the week! The first-century church kept the Lord's Supper once each year on the Holy Day of Passover (1 Corinthians 11:23-32). “The disciples came together to break bread" - means only that they gathered to eat a meal. This expression was commonly used to designate a meal in past times, and is not a communion service (Luke 24:30; Acts 2:46; 27:35)! Remember too, that Sabbath was a day of schooling and studying God’s Word. Typically, Jesus and then later His Apostles, would start teaching in the temple after breakfast on Saturday; they would then break for lunch, and then afterwards, retire to a hillside or a rented room to continue Bible Study throughout the afternoon – sometimes until, and even beyond dinner time! Such was the zeal, enthusiasm, and commitment of the First Century Church of God to learning and studying The Word of God!!!

Most Christians today have a hard time sitting still on a church pew for more than an hour; they want to get done with church, so they can go out and fish, or play, and do their own thing for the rest of “their” Sunday afternoon! This is a far cry from God’s Church today, whose members learn to give a Holy Sabbath Day, back to a Holy God in obedience, focused study time, and in fellowship with the Saints!!! www.onug.us

8. 1 Corinthians 16:2: “Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.” Often we can find this Scripture printed on the little offering envelopes, set in the pews of churches. Many ministers preach that this sets Sunday as the time for taking up the church collection for doing God's work, and for paying the minister and the church’s expenses; but in reality it says nothing of the sort! Verse 1 tells us what kind of collection is being made: “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.” First and foremost, it is a collection - not for the preacher, not for evangelism, and not for church expenses; it is "for the saints"!!! The members of the church in Jerusalem were suffering from a drought and famine. They needed, not money, but food – this is what they were collecting! Notice Paul’s similar instruction to other churches in this regard (Romans 15:25-28). It was not money, but fruit that was being prepared for shipment to the poor saints at Jerusalem! The Greek word used here for fruit can also loosely be applied to grain, wine, and other produce which can be easily stored a long time without spoiling or rotting. 1 Corinthians 16:2 is not Paul’s instruction for us to give money at a Sunday church service. Paul is telling the brethren to lay something aside, to store up things for a special use, at home – and NOT at church during the service! www.onug.us

Paul did not want there be any collecting done when he arrived, because he wanted their gifts (“produce” and “food”), destined for the Jerusalem church, to already be set aside, saved up and ready for shipment when he got there! There was going to be a lot of food; and it would require several strong men to help carry it (1 Corinthians 16:3-4). If this was referring to an offering of money, it could have been carried by one person in a purse. We can see yet again that the first day of the week, Sunday, is a workday, a day for gathering fruit and food out of the orchards, fields, and gardens, and for storing it up. This labor was to be done on the first day, as soon as the Sabbath had past! No, Sunday is not the new Sabbath! www.onug.us

If we are going to be HONEST about all the verses we have read today; we will have to admit that not one of these eight verses ordains, sanctifies, or sets Sunday, or the first day of the week apart as a new Sabbath Day! Nothing we can find in the Bible ordains Sunday as “The Lord’s Day”! In every case, the first day of the week is a common workday! Throughout the entire Bible, the seventh day has been, is, and will remain God’s Holy Sabbath Day (Isaiah 66:23)! Only the Feast of Pentecost, which is held only once a year; is calculated by seven Sabbaths from the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and is commanded to be held on the morrow after the Sabbath – which always falls on a Sunday. Only God’s annual Holy Day of Pentecost, when God gave His People His Laws, and when God gave His Church the Holy Spirit, and when God will soon pour out His Spirit upon all flesh - in the world tomorrow - is ordained by God, for Sunday worship (Leviticus 23:15-17)!!!

There is not a single shred of evidence in the entire Bible, that the unchangeable God ever would, or ever did, change His Holy Sabbath Day to a day that the followers of the sun god have always used to worship the Lucifer “the light bringer” (Sunday is the sun god day)!!! www.onug.us

REMEMBER Hebrews 4:1-11, and re-read these verses, replacing the KJV translators’ Catholic influenced word “rest”, with the original word, “Sabbath” (a rest given at Creation, commanded to be kept weekly – the seventh day; and coming to the whole world at the return of Christ as the 1,000 year Millennial Rest of God). Only Sabbath is a rest associated with Sanctification. It marks, signs, signals, and seals those who are Christ’s! Sabbath marks obedience to The Creator! It is a rest, which when engaged in properly, humbly, and obediently; Re-Creates us, or refreshes and rejuvenates us each week! Jesus Christ NEVER would replace or change His Sabbath with another day!!!

There is not one tenet of authority that an unchanging Christ ever sanctified a pagan day for His Self-proclaimed Holy Day (Hebrews 13:8); nor gave His Disciples the authority to replace God’s Laws with human traditions (Matthew 5:13-20)! No, Sunday is not the new Sabbath Day! There is no Biblical Authority for Sunday observance; and that my friends is why we do not keep it (Joshua 24:14-28 / Revelation 20:4, 6 / John 4:23-24)!!!

For more information on God’s Sabbath Day, we invite you to call us at: (239)353-1303, read our BIBLE STUDY: Do You Have The Sign Of God? located at www.onug.us, or simply follow this link:

Remember, when Christ Returns He will institute a 1,000 year Millennial Sabbath Rest for ALL of mankind! This rest is pictured by a 6 day week, followed by the seventh day of rest. Christ will likewise follow 6,000 years of human history from the Creation of Adam, with 1,000 years of Sabbath Rest (humanity learning God’s Ways)!!! Isaiah 66:23-24 and Zechariah 14:16-19 make this VERY CLEAR!!! Sabbath teaches The Creator God’s Plan; Sunday hides The TRUTH of God in a lie, and leads MANY to destruction (Matthew 7:13-14)!!! www.onug.us

The First Century Church of God is still alive and well; and we are still about our Father’s Business! Thank you for joining One Nation Under God Ministries (www.onug.us) today in the Study of God’s Word! We so enjoyed having you here; and we hope to see you again next Sabbath!!! Please stay in touch, AND REMEMBER TO SHARE what you learn here with others (Matthew 28:18-20)! In Jesus Christ’s Mighty Name, Peace!

The sad state of affairs today is that the vast majority of Americans are Bible illiterates (Hosea 4:6). They simply have never read the book which they profess to regard as the “Word of God”. If we are to change this, we must begin using the Bible as our primary source of education, to learn about God and His teachings (Matthew 6:33).

If you have never faithfully kept God’s seventh day Sabbath holy or God’s Holy Days, the way Jesus Christ did – in the flesh, and in the fellowship of other followers of the Son of Man (Hebrews 10:25); we invite you to obediently enter into God’s rest today, and to keep the Feasts of the LORD (Hebrews 4:1-11 / Leviticus 23:1-44)! Contact us to find out where we fellowship and worship God, in your area, on His Sabbath Days (Exodus 31:12-18). We would love to hear from you and help get you started!

Join us on-line each Sabbath and Holy Day at www.onug.us where you can download our Bible Studies, or join us on facebook to listen in to our live webinar each week.

”But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one” (John 10:26-30).

Christians must learn to read the Bible, interpret the scriptures according to Biblical principles (Isaiah 28:10, 13), and begin to apply the precepts they learn in their walk with God. Individual study is essential; coupled with fellowship times of group study, worship, and discussions of personal insights and observations.

We strive, each Saturday, to foster an open and welcoming atmosphere where Spirit led confirmation, clarification, questions, and correction can be made in the fellowship of other students of God’s Word.

One Nation Under God (www.onug.us) is working to unify the body of Christ in the worship of God the Father, in the way Jesus showed us to - in Spirit and in Truth! We strive to promote rediscovery of American History, and renew in current generations the Vision and the Covenant of our Founding Fathers.
