Our Muslim Brothers and Sisters Need Our Christian and Jewish Prayers!

More than 50,000 Muslims are expected to take part in a prayer gathering on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, in Washington D.C., on Friday, September 25th. Sadly, some Christians have been expressing bigoted hostility to the Muslims planning to take part, denying their right to gather – even if they are American citizens, who love America.

I wrote, recently, “We must recognize that Islam represents a mission-critical mission field. The battle, in the end, is a spiritual battle. As usual, whatever the question, the answer is God! It is time to reach out to our Muslim neighbors and share with them a God who offers unconditional love, a salvation through grace not works. We need to know that there is a God who has plans for them -- plans for good and not for disaster, to give them a future.

In that spirit, I’d like to offer this prayer …

Dear Father God, You are a great God, a great King above all gods, and we are come before You to worship and bow down, to kneel before You as our maker, and the maker of all mankind.

Father, You know that our hearts are troubled today as we think of the gathering of Muslims in our capital. We confess that some of us have failed in love and charity to our Muslim neighbors. We admit our concern at the challenge that Islam represents to the Christian heritage of this country that You have given to us. We therefore ask:

·   That You give us a heart full of compassion and love for our Muslim brothers and sisters, and that Your Holy Spirit teach us how to pray for them,

·   That every Christian in America sees Muslims as opportunities for witness, not enemies to hate,

·   That You will reveal Yourself to all Muslims, that they will know You as the true and loving God,

·   That every Muslim will come to confess You as Lord and Savior, being convicted of sin, and coming to true repentance,

·   That our Muslim neighbors may have their spirit of bondage to fear, changed to that Spirit of adoption; whereby they may cry,“Abba, Father”,

·   That those Muslims attending the gathering in Washington be encircled by Christians praying for their good, and blessing any Muslims that may seek to curse them,

·   That they have safe travel, and that they be protected from any misguided attacks upon their safety.

·   That this One Nation be united under Your rule, and that all its people, of every nation and tongue, bow the knee, and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Father, we know that whatever we ask in Jesus’ name, believing in Him, will be done. Therefore we come, humbly pleading His promise and His merits, to Your throne. In Jesus name, Amen.              - Ian Rowlands
